Your peaceful retreat, tucked between river and forest

Caddis Lodge is a 1940’s fully renovated cottage, just a “stone’s throw” from the world-renowned Tongariro River, on the edge of the Tongariro National Park. Designed to host our guests who love all things outdoors and want luxury and comfort inside.

With three bedrooms, two with queen-sized beds and one with a double bed, and a drying room for all of your fishing or wet weather gear, it’s the perfect retreat for anglers or anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

Walking into the cottage, to the right you have a central kitchen that comes equipped with everything you might need during your stay; a fridge freezer, oven with hob-top, dishwasher, microwave, air fryer, and a Nespresso machine for your morning coffee fix. A large, French farmhouse table in the kitchen makes for the perfect gathering place for family and friends.

The lounge is set up for relaxed moments amongst a little luxury. Big, comfortable sofas are the perfect spot for some down-time after a big day on the river or walking the hills. We have a TV and WiFi for your screen time fix, and a heat pump/air conditioning unit is there to keep you comfortable no matter the outside temperature.

Two of the three bedrooms have queen-sized beds and the third bedroom holds a double. All of the beds are new and we have complemented them with luxury linens and cosy blankets, again - all for your comfort! All bedrooms are complemented by bedside tables and lamps, and electric blankets are available (upon request). A pair of complimentary slippers are also left in the rooms for each guest, making your stay extra comfortable.

The modern bathroom has a large walk-in shower, toilet, vanity and mirror. We offer plush white Sheridan towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus a hair dryer - so you don’t have to worry about packing yours (more space for that fishing gear or those extra clothes)!

For laundry, while not the best holiday activity it can sometimes be a necessity, we do have a separate laundry space with a washing machine and tub. And, the ultimate addition to this laundry set-up is a walk-in drying room, complete with boot racks and a hanging rail. This is the best space to hang up those wet waders and soggy hiking boots!

Bask in the afternoon sun on the front veranda while sitting on our classic “gin and tonic” rattan chairs; read a book, enjoy a cuppa or simply listen to the flow of the river. There is also a back porch with French-style table and chairs which is a perfect spot for breakfast or a coffee.

  • Caddis Lodge is a beautifully renovated cottage in a lovely quiet area. Walking distance to the river and walkway which was great! Such an easy house to be in, we felt at home immediately and enjoyed meeting Louise on our arrival 😊 Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise.

  • Beyond 5 stars in my opinion - even though that’s not an option. Cozy and comfortable cottage that was just right for our family of 3. The attention to detail was most impressive - with a feel of living in luxury in a older (1920s ?) restored cottage. “Better than home” was a comment from one of our family members. Louise is warm, friendly and hospitable - making you feel quite welcomed. Louise is also a guide - we learned - we might try fly fishing on a future visit with a longer stay. Turns out that Turangi is one of the top spots on the planet. Definitely on our list if we visit again and a strong recommendation to our friends.
